Biografía
Hiremio García Calveiro, conocido artísticamente como Santaolaya, es un artista visual cubano‑americano nacido en La Habana en 1961. Reside en Miami, Florida, donde ha desarrollado una sólida y reconocida carrera como pintor, escultor y tatuador, combinando diversas disciplinas visuales en una propuesta artística coherente, vibrante y profundamente personal.
Autodidacta, Santaolaya inició su trayectoria en Cuba en los años 90, participando en exposiciones en La Habana antes de establecerse en Estados Unidos, donde continuó expandiendo su lenguaje visual e identidad creativa. Desde entonces, ha cultivado una obra que fluye entre lo abstracto y lo figurativo, marcada por una fuerte carga simbólica, uso expresivo del color y referencias a la identidad y la memoria cultural.
Su técnica artística abarca una amplia variedad de medios, incluyendo óleo, acrílico, dibujo, cerámica y escultura, lo que le permite experimentar con diferentes texturas, soportes y dimensiones. Además, Santaolaya se especializa en el arte del tatuaje, trasladando su visión estética del lienzo a la piel con el mismo nivel de detalle, simbolismo y carga emocional.
Ha realizado exposiciones individuales en ciudades como La Habana, Miami, Hialeah, Coral Gables, Melbourne (FL)y Provincetown (MA), y ha participado en exposiciones colectivas en instituciones destacadas como el Pérez Art Museum y el Milander Center for Arts. Su obra forma parte de colecciones privadas y públicas en Estados Unidos, América Latina, Europa, Asia y África, así como en la colección de Oceania Cruises.
Sus obras han sido comercializadas en importantes plataformas y espacios de venta de arte, incluyendo 1stDibs, InCollect, Iconic Design Gallery y LiveAuctioneers, donde han sido adquiridas por coleccionistas a través de subastas internacionales.
Actualmente, dirige su propio estudio y galería en el distrito artístico de Hialeah (301 Hialeah Drive, Suite 109), donde exhibe su obra, acepta encargos personalizados y ofrece servicios de tatuaje artístico.
Con una propuesta que une tradición y contemporaneidad, Santaolaya representa una voz única en el arte cubano‑americano, fusionando el lenguaje plástico y corporal en una obra cargada de identidad, fuerza visual y autenticidad.
